| Dimensions | I am not a fan of BDC reticles. I rather much prefer MOA., I couldn’t find a good scope 1-6 with MOA reticle and good review/value, so decided to try the ACSS reticle. It definitely does a good job (still prefer MOA), and for someone who prefers BDC, it’s probably the best one in the market today.The quality of the glass is not like the ones in Night Force, or Swarovski, however, it is more than good enough for this type of application. After all, this scope is not designed for precision shooting at 600 yards. A higher definition glass is not going to improve my performance, therefore, I saw no point in going for Trijicon.I compared it to the Vortex 1-6 Strike Eagle (I love Vortex, and own several optics from this company), however, as many reviewers say, the reticle lines on the Vortex are way too thick to the point they obscure the target. The farther the target, the worst it would be.The range finder on the Primary Arms works just fine, but I am not a combatant, therefore I see little use for me. But it is there, and it does not bother me.I have a few minor criticisms regarding design (not quality). The turrets are covered (not a fan of unscrewing turrets on the field or hunting). I much prefer when the turrets are open and in clear sight for quick adjustments.The other criticism (again, related to design, not quality) is that there is no “off” selection in between intensity selectors on the illumination dial. That should be standard on any optics now days.There is minor distortion around the edges on the 1x power, but at this price range, that is not going to affect my rating as it does not affect my shooting accuracy and I can still shoot with both eyes open.On the plus side, the reticle is edged on the scope. That’s a big plus for me. I never understood why manufacturers design electrooptics without an edge reticle. No batteries, not optics. Not good for quick shooting either as you would have to turn reticle on (unless they come with motion sensor)Some reviewers indicated it is not bright enough in bright sunlight. Honestly, in those situations, I rather use the edged reticle. I never saw the point in illuminating something that is already bright enough.This is not a criticism, but a suggestion, I wish it would come in FDE color as an option, even if it would cost extra.I would give it a 4 1/2 stars if I could. If these minor issues were fixed on a newer version, I would give it a 5 stars rating. It is still a good value for the money |
| Model Number | I received my riflescope about 3 weeks ago and paired it with the American Defense mount. I could not be happier with this optic. The ACSS reticle is amazing. Don’t have to spend any time at all ranging or calculating. Everything is quick. I do have to note that this is not for precision long range shooting. But if you need that quick shot out at 300 yards or 25 yards, this is the perfect optic. There is no reason this scope couldn’t be a 500 dollar optic. For it to be less than $300, it’s just amazing.There are a few downfalls that do not take away from the effectiveness of this scope. The first being the rather cheap covers that come with it, if you’re going to the range, you might as well just pop them off. After a few shots, they’ll pop themselves off. Once again, doesn’t retract from the actual scope. The other issue being the power adjustment is stiff. I’d highly recommend getting the throw lever along with it. |
| Color | This is my 3rd Primary Arms 1-6. I have another Gen 3 on my CMMG Mk 47 in 7.62×39. Love it. You cant beat this optic for the money. Nothing comes close for features and quality. I will say it isn’t a Steiner, Trijicon, or Leupold as far as glass quality, but it isn’t far off either. I love the ACSS reticle and wish other manufacturers would adopt it. I also think having an etched reticle over just a red dot is beneficial if your illumination goes down. Primary Arms gives you this and more. I actually ran this optic last weekend at a 3 day Costa Ludus Carbine course and it was quite a torture test. We had heavy rains, muddy conditions, and fired over 1000 rounds. My PA ran like a champ. I did change out the battery once but it may have been because it was the original battery. After the change, I didn’t have any illumination issues. I was able to zero quickly on day one and my rifle held zero all the way through day 3. We did a lot of moving and shooting and dropping to the ground. The optic is tough and came through very well. A lot of the other guys were running Aimpoints and high dollar optics. I personally like gear that is bang for the buck type stuff when it comes to my carbines so I own multiple PA optics. At no time did I feel like I was at a disadvantage. I would trust mine and my family’s life to this optic in a home defense situation after having it perform so well during the 3 day class. I would say that in a duty or combat situation, I may choose a more battle proven optic, but for my purposes and most casual shooters, this is a great optic. I will say advantage over a red dot is the magnification. I had many opportunities to dial up magnification and get good rounds on target at distance where a 1x red dot would not perform so well unless you were fundamentally a perfect shooter. I would certainly try one if you are at all on the fence. I bet you would be impressed and your fellow shooters would give PA a second look. Less expensive doesn’t always mean Cheap.Way to go Primary Arms! |
