DimensionsThis is a beautiful scope with many pros and desirable features and no important cons. Super clear view, wide field of view and generous eye relief.Up close, it looks to be of very high quality.A stellar feature is: LPVOs (Low Power Variable Optic) very often get blurry towards their higher power. This scope stays super clear throughout the range and is just as clear at 5 power as 1 power.I highly recommend this scope. In fact, I’m going to buy at least one more.PROS:Long eye relief stays the same at any power. I have it all the way forward on the upper pic rail.Very clear view at any power right out of the box.FFP (First Focal Plane) works beautifully well. I didn’t know if I’d like FFP or not – but I like it a lot.The scope was very near zero as installed. Zeroing it in was predictable, solid and just as it should be.Power ring operates smooth as silk and properly tight.Windage and elevation detents or clicks are good though some will say a bit soft. I would say they are about middle of the road compared to big name scopes of much higher cost. The adjustment knobs are pulled up or out and a good detent click occurs. This unlocks the knob for adjustment. Click it back down to lock it again. I like this feature a LOT.Common (for optics) CR2032 battery. Smart choice and good availability! The clicks of the dot illumination knob are properly tight and work perfectly. In practice in low light, I’m easily able to keep both eyes open at 1 power using the illuminated dot. In other words, it works properly at close range similar to a dedicated dot scope in low light. This is a great feature as it is often not the case with many LPVOs of any price range.CONS:Rear flip up cover rubber ring moves a bit when flipping up the cover. This is somewhat because the flip detent is good and tight as it should be and I expect the detent to wear in and work nicely. This is almost not worth mentioning since it’s a great feature to even have flip covers at this price point and I’m glad to have them. And it beats the heck out of covers that constantly flip open on their own due to not enough detent. These covers will stay closed until you open them.Dot brightness: I hesitate to list this as a con since this is a known feature, but the dot brightness will be best in later evening or total darkness outdoors or indoors with lights off. In a dim or dark house for HD, the dot brightness will be perfect. Again, this is a minor thing and doesn’t affect my opinion of the scope overall. I like that each color of dot is adjustable in 3 brightness settings.OTHER:Compared to a removable A2 front sight, the scope mount will put the crosshairs somewhat below true co-witness. I don’t list this as a con since some people will like the lower scope mount for a better cheek weld.FFP or First Focal Plane is a feature usually found on much more expensive scopes so I’ve never owned one before. So far, I like it a lot. Probably normal for FFP, the front sight does not disappear like it does with typical scope designs. I’m not listing that as a con since I believe it’s just part of FFP of any kind. My solution for my particular usage will be a folding A2 height front sight.CONCLUSIONS:I believe this is the best LPVO scope near this price range. I expect it would compete well in the 3-$400 price range.I wholeheartedly recommend this scope. I expect you’ll end up buying 2 or more – just as I’m going to.I will update this review in the future if anything noteworthy comes up.
Model NumberI know that most CQB scopes are intended for AR-15s, but I put this one on a plinker … a T/CR22 … a 10/22 clone. The 1-5x range is pretty good under 100 yards, and most 22s are shot under 100 yards.A big reason why I tried this 1-5x scope on my 22 is that it is a First Focal Plane, and I specifically wanted to try a FFP scope. For those of you who don’t know, the reticle on a FFP scope is kinda “painted on the target.” As you zoom in, and the target gets bigger, so does the reticle. This means that the reticle is small at 1x and big at 5x. If the reticle has a lot of detail when it is big, all that detail can blur together when the reticle is small. So, I was on a “Goldilocks” hunt for a reticle that was just right … distinct at 1x and detailed at 5x. This reticle is both. The illumination on this reticle is just the dot in the center of the reticle. But, it is 3 color: Red/Green/Blue. I usually don’t bother turning on the illumination on a scope, but the Blue looks like it might be really nice in low light. And, the Red/Green are not bad. (I have only used this indoors so far. I can not comment on the illumination in bright daylight.) Finally on illumination, each color only has 3 levels. They are all on the same dial, with “off” between each color … there is only so much room on one dial.If you look at my second picture you can see the elevation and windage turrets. Notice the numbers on the windage turret. They are rotated so that they are more easily readable from behind the scope. This surprised me, but I like it. It just makes adjusting windage a hair easier. My third picture is by best attempt at a shooters eye view looking at the mount. It is see thru. On my 22, my iron sights don’t line up with this, but I can see the top of my front sight. (I could not get that in the picture.) With a little practice I can aim thru the see thru a little above the top of my front sight in case the scope ever fails and I still want to take the shot.A few negatives:The bolts that mount the scope to the pic-rail stick out a bit, and are right near the bolt handle on my 22. This might not be an issue for you, but I have already bumped into them operating my bolt. With rings, I often turn them around so the bolts are on the left side.I have seen reflections (of things behind me) in the ocular lens. This has never happened while shooting. And this may not be a negative … If my eye is not centered on the scope, the fatter ends of the reticle at 3:00, 6:00 and 9:00 “look” different (a little less visible). At first this was distracting, but now it is feedback to keep my eye centered on the reticle.Ok, bottom line … How do I rank this scope? If I rank it against all the scopes I own, no matter the price, I probably only give it 4 stars. BUT, if I factor in price, This is a NICE $100 scope. It is a great way to try a FFP scope. In this case, I give it 5 stars.
ColorSo I like target shooting. The quarantine pretty much got me cooped up. I live in a townhouse, but figured I can shoot through the hallway, my office and into the yard and get a 25 meter “firing lane”. Can’t exactly fire powder in this environment so I got myself a .177 pump pellet gun. The scope that came with the gun were terrible!. But the rifle itself was fine, I could see from just shooting without the scope and sighting over the barrel. Grouping was fine. So I spent $100 on a scope. (Also anther 20 on an adapter dovetail to 30mm rings). Now you have to understand the limitations of this scope! It’s maximum magnification is 5x. Like I said, my firing lane is 25 meters, you probably shouldn’t shoot pests with a .177 beyond 40 yards anyway… For those things this scope is incredible! If you wanna bench shoot targets at more than 50 yards, not so much. One more caveat. This is not about longevity, I just put a 100 rounds through the gun with this scope today.I’ve attached a picture. This is my first set of shots with this scope. The very first shot (Bottom right) was my calibration shot. The next shot was lower right, close to the middle. The top left closest to the bulls eye was my third. At this point I took the rifle of the stand and shot of the last four shots freehand with a rest. The last five shots fit within a penny at 25 yards.I don’t know of any scopes that use first focal plane (my preferred way) for less than $250.To be honest, you have no idea how good your gun that came with a crappy scope is until you get a decent one.I don’t care about illuminated reticles. I just do not use that feature. This one ticks a lot of boxes.
