| Dimensions | There are so many great things about this scope some of which really surprised me. I really really want to love this scope but I am not there yet. Not sure if I will keep or return it. There is one thing I cannot seem to get past. The Good———————————- Packaging – As I started opening the box, the excitement factor shot through the roof. The attention to detail was outstanding. The exterior of the box was solid and nicely printed. The box was very sturdy and I loved the Delorean style opening that made it easy to get inside. The entire interior of the box used a firm protective sponge within which each of the items (scope, rings, sun-shades, throw lever, cleaning cloth, adjustment tools and documentation) was nestled in perfect cut-to-fit slots. Seeing that, my expectations immediately jumped 10-fold. I mean … for this price, this level of attention to detail … for a quality scope (still to be determined – I had no reason to think otherwise) … I felt this was the deal of the century.- Ultra clear glass – I saw other reviews commenting on the quality of the glass and though I liked what I read, I had a hard time fully understanding what that meant. Once I got it … Wow! The glass is truly clear. OK … so it is not as good as my Sightron SIII but man … for what you pay … it is quite good. Though the glass seemed clear before I mounted the scope, you really don’t get a good appreciation for its clarity until you mount it and get a good cheek-weld looking through the scope.- Eye Relief – Very nice and relaxed – somewhat forgiving too. This is good as long as you have the right scope-mount height. There was slight parallax shift at the edges but nothing out of the ordinary – especially for this price.- FFP + Zoom – Nice and smooth and FFP ‘seems’ accurate enough. Since this is being mounted on my AR-10 as a mid-range platform, if there is any error in the 1:1 accuracy of FFP it will have minimal effect on point of impact (other things would affect POI more than FFP accuracy) for distances up-to 300yds.The Not So Good (The Bad)———————————- The Documentation – the printed instruction / description insert seemed generic (even had a picture of a different scope model). The information was still relevant but for the level of attention to detail I had seen up-till this point, all I could think was … aaawwww … really … you skimped on this! But this was not a deal breaker.- The rings – What a disappointment. Sorry … but the rings are absolute trash. In fact, when I mounted the scope on my AR, I was amazed to see the entire sight off-center. It was as-if the center of the bore was to the right by 6mm (~ 0.24″). This could not be right. Looking at it some more, I discovered the rings were not ‘seating correctly’ on the rail. Hmmm … this was the first time I had seen something like this. Playing around with the rings (loosening … positioning it then tightening while ‘holding’ gave better results). Though I got closer to center, that is not acceptable. This means with those rings, there is no way I could hope to be close to zero if I removed the scope and returned it to the rifle. I grabbed a set of high-quality Burris rings from my box and Wallah! Spot-on dead center! Now that’s they way it should be. I was back to being elated again! BUT: The Burris rings I have are not high enough which means I would need to order rings. Good rings are nearly $100 … and if I am going to buy good rings … that means my spend puts me in a whole different category of scopes to consider. The Ugly———————————- Uh-Oh … I was hoping there would be no ugly. Adjusting how I addressed the rifle for the ‘lower’ height of my Burris rings, I began to play around with the scope (not at the range). Dang! The clarity of the lens is simply fantastic. I promise looking through this scope will bring a smile to your face … maybe even a grin. So how is this ugly? The ugly might be from my expectation but here is what I feel: Any scope that provides 1x – 3x (yeah … this scope goes beyond that) means the user intends to focus / target on objects that are likely to be closer. Maybe from 5m (~16ft) up-to 50m (~55yds). In other words … I would expect to use this for CQB type scenarios. Remember, this scope and mount IS your aiming solution. So what’s the big deal then? The reticle!! The illumination even at its brightest setting is unusable. In low-light conditions it is better but if your aiming solution is only useful when there is low light … that is not an aiming solution.- Then what’s the big deal about the reticle? The reticle is sooooo fine at 1x – 3x and the illumination is so low (even on brightest setting) you simply cannot use it as an effective quick aiming / sighting solution. Zoom in past 3x (with FFP taking effect, it maks the reticle more pronounced) and finally you have an aiming solution that is usable. But that changes the visual dynamic because both eyes are open. For me, for a scope to be useful at 1x – 3x I, would expect to use it similar to my Eotech such that the reticle was easy to acquire so I could quickly get on target. At CQB distances, aiming is not about splitting hairs, it is about getting on-target as fast as possible and that can only happen if you can see the reticle. Maybe this problem is all me and others do not have this challenge.FULL DISCLOSURE: I have not yet gone to the range with the scope. From what I have heard, it performs as expected in relation to accuracy. I am just not sold on my ability to use this scope to acquire targets quickly and accurately when using 1x – 3x power. This is why I am thinking about returning it.UPDATE (8-1-2020): I did have an opportunity to take this scope out to the range … and as I suspected, the scope performed quite well. I did some basic accuracy tests (measuring POI based on adjusting elevation up and back) and found the scope performed well. Grouping 1/2 MOA was no issue and frankly, the excellent clarity at zoom coupled with the FFP feature made that rather easy to achieve.Initially, I gave it two stars but in retrospect, I think that was harsh. Why the reconsideration? Well, after thinking about it, I determined what I was buying was a scope which happened to come with a set of rings. So in reality, the rings were ‘bonus’ and it would be unreasonable to expect high-quality rings. Additionally, though the scope did not meet an expectation I had (I wanted a red-dot merged with a precision FFP), that did not mean the scope did not perform well for what others may use it for.As a result, I re-framed how I evaluated the scope and on the merits of the scope, the clarity of the optics and the solid FFP performance (especially considering the surprisingly low cost), taking stars away misrepresented the value of the scope.I have updated my rating to five stars *****.Who is this scope for: Anyone wanting to have an inexpensive yet well built FFP scope that will perform well including great optics and ultra fine reticle (especially important when zoomed and ranging), this is the ideal budget scope that will outperform the price you pay for it. |
| Model Number | Pros:Zoom levels are smooth and feel goodIlluminated reticle is niceCons:Reticle is tilted ~10-15 degrees, making it unusableEye relief is horrible to the point of making it unusable. I’ve never seen an optic so unforgiving. Mounted a few different budget optics onto the same rifle to ensure I wasn’t crazy, because it was so bad I was concerned it was just meReticle lines and numbers are illegible at any distance or focus |
| Color | I’m rating the scope 5 stars because it seems to be made well and feels very solid. Unfortunately, it looks like Amazon sent me a returned product as the box for the scope was ripped and the scope arrived broken. No matter how I adjusted the focus, the reticle was only viable at just passed 3x magnification. I tried the illumination and it seemed bright and clear, again only at that exact magnification. I was really looking forward to shooting tomorrow but it’ll now have to wait for another day. |
| Material | For a 200$ price range I gotta give credit where credit is due. Glass is very clear, the scope comes with threaded lens caps and all the tools needed. If I had to describe it I’d say it’s like a 200$ eotech vudu knock off. I love the reticle. I slapped it on an ar and have no complaints. Unless you’re a weenie it shouldn’t matter that the reticle brightness adjustment knob is pretty tough to turn. |
| Power Source | So far this is the best bang for your hard earned $ I have handled. Especially for a budget build. A couple guys introduced this product to me when I began looking for 1-6 for a rifle. I have shot many different brands and models. This scope beats everything at this price. Packaging is excellent, even better than some “big” brand names! Great clarity especially for 1x, good for cqb using both eyes open.1 suggestion. I saw a buyer explain the throw lever did not fit. Some how you have a screw in the lever to tighten up that is too long! The threads bottom out in the hole before the lever gets tight. Check your screw lengths before packaging. You may have gotten some too long from a supplier. I used my dremel to take about 1/8” off and no problems! Lever works like a charm!Thank you for an American company providing a quality part!!! |
