| Model Number | I have had this scope mounted on an AR15 (.300 Blackout) for over two years now. It has really been an excellent scope. It has very nice glass for my purposes and holds zero. The illuminated reticle works very well. I do consider myself somewhat of a Vortex “fanboy” as all of my scopes and binos are Vortex and range from high end to budget models. Vortex is a great scope at a great value.This is to warn potential buyers who want this scope specifically for a scout style rifle.This version of the 2-7×32 Vortex Crossfire II scope is the model CF2-31003. This particular model has an eye relief of only 3.9”. So it will washout and higher magnification.If you are buying this scope specifically for a SCOUT STYLE rifle. You want the model CF2-31002. This particular model has a a longer eye relief of 9.75”. This is specifically for a forward mounted scope with longer eye relief. |
| Material | Good scope for the price. The only issue I ran into when mounting it on a Savage A17 was I used a Wheeler bubble level-level. When I was done the cross hairs were out of alignment with the gun by about 10 degrees. I contacted Vortex. They told me that this was not unusual. The adjustment turrets are calibrated to the cross hairs, not the external frame of the scope. Their advise was to use a plumb bob, which I did, and the issue was resolved. Wheeler’s instructions assume the adjustment turrets are square with the cross hairs (reticle). On this scope, at least, it is possible (probable?) they are not.UPDATE: After messing with this scope way too long, I discovered it wasn’t the bubble levels that were a problem, it was the reticle in the scope which was completely detached from the scope body, out of the box. I returned the scope to Vortex, which cost me $28 and they “repaired” the scope. In the meantime I purchased a MADE IN THE USA Leupold, which functioned flawlessly and was much higher quality. Vortex has OK customer service (they gave me erroneous reasons why the scope couldn’t be leveled twice, once by email and once by phone), but you are out shipping costs, even on a brand new, defective product, at minimum. The issue, as I see it, is the little gold sticker on the bottom of the scope “MADE IN CHINA”. |

After watching/reading many reviews, I settled on the Vortex as my first “serious duty” scope.“Cliff Notes” :Looks dopePicture sight is dopeTurrets are dopeScope looks amazing on the AR platform and I can’t wait to take the .300 Blackout out to harvest some game with the scope.Picture is amazingly clear. Brilliant colors and very crisp image makes it easy to forget you are looking through an optic.Turrets work great and I had my rifle zeroed in only 4 shots (would have been less if I had taken the time to bore sight the scope, first). Each click gives a positive clicky feel and I detected no mushiness. The cheaper scopes have a tendency to need you to tap them with casings after each adjustment to help get them settled into place and the zero will wander a bit no matter how much you fuss with the adjustments, but that is all absent with the Vortex. Once you have the scope zeroed in, you can remove the turrets with a flathead and turn them back to their “zeroed” tick marks so that you can make small adjustments later (such as when using a different type of ammo) without losing where your main baseline zero is at.If you’re like me and not able to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a scope but are no longer interested in the cheap knockoffs, do not hesitate to go with the Vortex Crossfire II line of scopes. They are amazing scopes for the price.In my review photo, there are two or three shots that went too far to the right. Those are my own errors as I flinched during those shots. The scope works flawlessly. |
